2007 World of wheels

On of those days I look forward to in the year is the world of wheels show. I am not much of an artist but do appreciate the artwork and time that goes into restoring hot rods and older cars.

Check out the flames on this:
Of course it woudnt be my wife's favorite thing unless there was some pink involved

Unleaded Fuel at Caalifornia

Well it seems as if the new unleaded fule engines have thrown some teams for a loop. as in the Case of DEI as both Martin Truex and Dale Jr. both had engine failures. Seems like Dale Jr, has other problems in the engine dept as they seem to be lacking power.

What a finish

The Daytona 500 is over and congrats to Kevin Harvick for winning on a last second effort, and I mean last second. Just as I was thinkin there is no more slingshot moves in restrictor plate racing out of nowhere comes Harvick on the outside of Mark Martin, who I thought was going to win, with a few hundred yards to go. And while the pass is going on behind them the field is wrecking and Clint Boyer ending up rolling over on his roof crossing the finishing line upside down and on fire.

Dale Jr., well he ended up crashing a few laps earlier, he never really had a car that could win today, as he said in the interview after the race they have to go back to the negine combinations they ran there in th past. why would you change something that works in the first place?
Especially with the record they have at Daytona in past years.

Oh and I hope he gets this deal with Theresa worked out cause DEI without a Dale driving is not DEI in my mind, so come on Theresa, let up a bit and work out a deal.

And the favorite to win this year's race Tony Stewart, well he got a little lose in front of Kurt Busch and got squirly before Kurt Busch ran into his rear bumper and sent both of them crashing and out of the race.
Oh by the way how close was the finish?
just look at how close Mark Martin came to winning his first Daytona 500.

Doesn't MArk MArtin look good in a Chevrolet?

Finally here

The day all true race fans are waiting for is finally here!
The Daytona 500 is just hours away........

Craftsman Triuck Racing in Daytona

An unbelievable finish at Daytona. Travis Kvapil thought he had it won with 100 yards to go when Jack Sprague got a push from Johnny Benson and past Travis for the lead at the finish line. A three car finish with Travis finishing 3rd!

Nascar Penalties

Holy Crap NASCAR has come down hard on some teams, especially Michael Waltrip's new #55 Toyota team. I hope it was not his fault that a jet fuel additive was in the gas, but of some wayward employee, and I hope if he like he says knows who it is that he punishes that individual appropriately for as that individual has put the debut of Toyota's hight profile team in jeopardy not to mention the -100 deficit that Mikey has to start from at the beginning of the season.
There were other teams fined as well who will lose points and get fines and even Jeff Gordon was forced to start the Daytona 500 in 42nd spot after winning his qualifying race but being disqualified after his car was too low after inspection.
Is this going to be a precedent by NASCAR for the rest of the season?

Waltrip car confiscated

Micheal Waltrip's #55 Toyota Camry was confiscated after qualifying today, after some unidentified substabce was found in the manifold and carburator. Mikey, Mikey, Mikey what is going on?
NASCAR wants to go thru it with a fine tooth comb so there must be something suspicious in there.
Casey Kane and Matt Kenseth had their qualifying times taken away after aerodynamic modifications were found illegal on thier bodies of their cars. They must start last in the Gatorade Duels on Thursday.
Good luck to Michael Waltrip in the results of NASCAR's inspection.

Speedweek in Daytona 2007!

Well my favorite time of year is once again upon us, Speedweek in Daytona!
The beginning of the Nascar season means all the other series are starting or will be soon starting including ARCA, BUSCH, CRAFTSMAN TRUCKS , NHRA and IROC (which has stalled the season due to lack of sponsorship, damn I love that series).
Anyway Congrats to Tony Stewart for winning the Bud Shootout tonite
Damn I wish I lived in Florida at least for a week anyway!

A race of a different kind,
As my wife gets dragged off to watch NHRA events and CASCAR I guess it's only fair that she drag me to watch her races. Cross Country runs in the snow! That is a huge difference from the balmy weather in Daytona but the snow covered course and big blue sky made for spectacular scenery and some awesome pictures.

Flames Vs Blue Jackets

We went to last night's game, Flames vs Blue Jackets, and well the result was predictable (6-2 Flames) the amount of powerplays was quite disappointing. 8 goals 6 of them power play goals. I just want to see some 5 on 5 hockey end to end action with little distractions. Granted some of the penalties are actual penalties like fighting and tripping, but these "phantom" interference calls the refs love to call is pretty annoying to me. To me watching a team spend most of the game in the opposing team's end on power plays is boring. It is just innevitable that a goal is coming soon, especially with teams with a good power play like the Flames.
Now anyway, I still like to watch hockey, and even though I am not a true Flames fan I will support the team and come out to watch games when I can. But the reffing is truely utterly brutal in the league nowadays and the fans who like the way the game is played today to me are not hockey purists. They think their team is awesome when all they have is a powerplay. I mean some teams have top ranked powerplays but have a "-" rating on 5 on 5 play. What's that tell you? To me it means some teams wait til there is a penalty to play well and in the meantime just dump and chase! And what will they (the fans) do when overtime is decided by shootouts in the playoffs? It's going to happen eventually.

Habs vs Pens

Last night's game between the Habs and Pens was awesome to watch, except for the refs who insist on calling phantom calls. how can it be when you lift someone's stick and take the puck that it is an interference call? Or how can it be when you brush up against someone its interference. There was some of these calls last night which took away from the passion of the game, and only in the first period and a half. the third period the refas lat everything go and let them play. Now how can that be? Is the third period designated as a freeforall and not the first and second? My beef is with the standard of reffing around the league. There is no consistency from game to game or period to period and as a player I can only imagine the frustration some would naturally have. No wonder some players say to hell with it after a while and take matters into their own hands which I personally think is a good thing.
I only hope that Sunday's game the refs let these two teams play without all the phantom calls.
Bring Tie Domi out of retirement!
